Why I Built Job Swiper: A Story of 47 Rejections
After sending countless CVs and getting nowhere, I decided to solve the problem myself. Here's how frustration led to innovation.
After 47 rejections, I stopped blaming the market. I started blaming the process.
The problem nobody talks about
Every job application is the same grind. You find a listing. You open your CV. You rewrite bullet points to match what they're looking for. You write a cover letter that says "I'm excited about this opportunity" for the 30th time. You hit apply. You hear nothing.
Most people spend 30-60 minutes per application. If you're applying to 10 jobs a week, that's a full workday — just on busywork. Not networking. Not interviewing. Not learning. Busywork.
I was stuck in this loop for three months. My spreadsheet of applications grew longer. My inbox stayed silent. And the quality of each application dropped because I was exhausted.
What I actually needed
I didn't need another job board. Indeed, LinkedIn, Glassdoor — they all have the same listings. What I needed was a way to:
1. See jobs that actually match my skills — not just keyword overlap, but genuine fit
2. Generate a tailored CV in seconds — one that reorganizes my real experience for each specific role
3. Stop writing the same cover letter — let AI draft something that sounds like me, not a robot
4. Prepare for interviews efficiently — with notes specific to the company and role
So I built it.
How Job Swiper was born
The first version was ugly. A command-line script that pulled jobs from Google and matched them against my profile using a basic scoring algorithm. But it worked. The match scores were surprisingly accurate, and generating tailored CVs from my base profile saved hours.
I showed it to friends who were also job hunting. They wanted it immediately. That's when I knew this wasn't just a personal tool — it was a real product.
What makes this different
Job Swiper isn't trying to replace job boards. It sits on top of them. Here's the flow:
- Import your profile once — from LinkedIn, an existing CV, or manual entry
- Set your search criteria — role, location, industry, remote preference
- Swipe through matched jobs — Tinder-style, because reviewing jobs should be fast and intuitive
- Generate tailored documents — CV, cover letter, and interview notes, all customized for each specific job
The AI doesn't write fiction. It reorganizes and rephrases YOUR real experience to match what each job is looking for. Every bullet point comes from your actual background.
The numbers so far
